I am trying to start a small handyman company

heisterhandyman started this conversation

I am a college student trying to start a small handyman company.  I was wondering if there is anyway to get a government grant to assist in the start up costs for insurance and equipment.  If anyone knows about this please let me know.

Thanks,

Dustin

Hello and I hope it works out for you. I have some ideas that might help. Equipment, you can find for free on Craigslist.org. They have a section for free stuff. I found a lot of things that I need for FREE there. You just have to pick them up.

Next, do your business on a shoestring. Just create a flyer with who you are and what you can do. That is easy to do. You can go to the public library and get that done or since you are at school. I'm sure they have a computer lab that you can create your flyer.

Once you start seeing money coming in. Start opening a business checking account and put your money in there and they you can start paying and buying things that you need to run your business properly.

Give that a try.

I live in Orange, CA. If you could look something up for me that would help me more than anything. Thanks in advance. Dustin

Dustin, Where do you live? There is a great program in Columbus, OH. Please write me back and let me know where you are. If you are not in the area, maybe I can help where you are. I currently work in the non-profit sector and can look up some info in our databases. Can't hurt!!
